It is Ramadan and roughly 1.6 billion Muslim start fasting for a whole month. We will start fasting from dawn to dust daily for 30 days. During this period, we have to refrain ourselves from making sins and fighting the lust in ourselves.
As normal, on the first day of fasting, the whole family members would gather at mum’s place for the first day breaking fast. This year, mum prepared KL must popular dish..”bubur lambuk”! If you are not familiar with this dish…it is actually porridge cooked with some meat, veges and coconut juice. Chili anchovies (sambal bilis lah) as the side dish.
After isyak is when we will start “terawikh”. It is special prayers during the month of Ramadan……
In the month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world learn how to :
- Be humble
- Be thankful
- Be compassionate
- Be forgiving
- Be merciful
- Be gracious
- Be thoughtful
- Be helpful
- Be close to god
- Do more good deeds
- Helping the unfortunate
- Watch our language
In the month of Ramadan , Muslim will have to refrained from :
- Drinking
- Eating
- Picking your nose..(no putting foreign item in your body)
- Cursing
- NO SEX (heheeh…no sex during fasting only…)
- Gossiping
- Whining
- Complaining
To the non-Muslim, fasting seems very hard, even some Muslim would find it hard to perform. I’m no different too, during my early years, I often find ways not to fast….but as i grew older, I find that fasting is one good way to cleanse our body and mind. It help build stronger mind and train us to be more patience.
So to my Muslim friends and family, I wish you “Happy Ramadan”.
