Batu Sapi

As everyone knows, Batu Sapi is going to have their by election this 4th November. What triggers me to blog about it is the fact that the contenders are from BN, PKR and SAPP. BN is being represented by the Linda, PKR by Ansari and SAPP is by Yong Teck Lee.

There is a major issue about BN candidate whom are not fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and to twist the story, the opposition claims that with the BN candidate would not be able to help BN voters in state assembly as she is not fluent in Bahasa Malaysia.

The opposition claims that since the majority of the voters are Bumiputra, it is compulsory that she must know how to speak proper Bahasa Malaysia. Her lack of fluency in Bahasa Malaysia would also be a problem for her to communicate in the state assembly. Is it true?

Well let’s see the first issue, “She can’t speak proper Malay”. I have seen her on TV and do agree that she don’t speak fluent Malay but she does speak great English. Most of outsiders (those not from Sabah) must understand that Sabahans tends to send their children to Australia (favorite place for Sabahan for education) to study. Linda must have spent majority of her life abroad and from that you can see that she does not speak good Malay. Her up bringing and family communication must have use a lot of English on daily basis.

Being a wife to politician and active in PBS does not do her good in sharpening her Malay but she stills a Malaysian. To be more precise, she is a Sabahan. Being a Sabahan, she must have roots to the Kadazandusun community which is the biggest community in Sabah. For information, Kadazandusun compromises few ethnic groups such as Murut, Dusun, and Sungai etc. All these ethnic people are labeled as Bumiputra by the west Malaysian.

So if we were to go back to her not being able to speak proper Bahasa Malaysia, it only right that she can understand the native Bumiputra tongue which is most probly Kadazandusun.

We made a mistake by “assuming” that the Bumiputra in Sabah are Malay speaking people. In Batu Sapi which is in Sandakan, there are big communities of Kadazandusun and Bajau’s (Bajau too are separated into few groups). So the issue of Linda would not be able to communicate with her voters is not valid as she has been helping her late husband in dealing with the local community and the voters itself lack the fluency of Bahasa Malaysia.

I believe Linda would be good for the voters of Batu Sapi as she knows the territory and people well. She understood their needs and would be great incentive for the local if she is elected to represent them in the state assembly.

Now we turn our sight to Ansari the PKR hopeful. Who is Ansari? I know he is from PKR but history tells us that he have lost so many times and not local to Batu Sapi. PKR members in Batu Sapi too rejected him because he is nobody there. PKR should have selected local PKR member but Anwar the gay decided not to, why?

PKR knows that they will loose in Batu Sapi. So in order to show that PKR “really” concerns about the people, they decided to use Ansari as their scapegoat. “IF” Ansari wins, then Anwar can brag that PKR is accepted in Batu Sapi no matter who they place as a candidate BUT if PKR loose, Anwar can say that it is Ansari fault not being a local.

PKR members must understand that Anwar is not interested in the welfare of the rakyat. He is only interested in his own power and glory. He is not even a PKR member but yet he champions PKR vision, why?

Yong Teck Lee, this is another candidate that I think should retired from politics. His days are over but to prove a point to PKR which SAPP claim back stab them, he decided to be a candidate. YTL too is not a local from Batu Sapi. YTL and Ansari are not voters in Batu Sapi, so why waste time in plying the voter’s future?

YTL have a mission. He needs NOT to win but just prove that he can still get votes. His aim is to get 1,000 votes minimum in order to prove to Anwar that he is still valuable and a threat to BN. Being a lone ranger party in Sabah is not good. You can’t do anything.

YTL tried to imitate Pairin’s (Hugon Siau – Kadazandusun Great Leader) vision of Sabah for Sabahan but failed miserably because the great Hugon Siau have abandon that slogan for the betterment of his people. What YTL will get is maybe 2 years in ISA for sedition!

YTL got his chance to do something about the future of Sabahan’s when he was the CM but I guess he don’t know what to do then and for sure don’t know what to do IF he win this Batu Sapi seat.

If I’m the local voter, whom shall I vote for? Shall I vote for a party that cannot do anything for my community or vote for BN that can make a different for my children future? You have to make the right choice because it is the future of your community that is at stake.
